Afterglow Holdout Survival Shooter
Hordes of creatures called the Gloom close in, and you have to last 10 minutes until dawn. All you do is move, because your weapons fire on their own. Defeated enemies drop light motes, and each level you gain lets you pick a weapon or part from 3 cards.
💡 About This Tool
There are 7 weapons that go up to Lv 6 and 10 parts that go up to Lv 5 (Split Circuit stops at Lv 2). You can hold 5 of each. Max out a weapon and its matching part, and a Resonance Core appears on the field. Pick it up and the weapon evolves.
- Pulse Shot + Cooling Fan → Pulse Storm
- Satellite Shards + Long Battery → Halo Ring
- Heat Field + Self-Repair → Mini Sun
- Chain Spark + Power Boost → Thunder Net
- Line Laser + Wide Lens → Spinning Prism
- Drop Mines + Magnet → Gravity Mine
- Boomerang Disc + Thruster Boots → Twin Cyclone
Enemies grow in number and toughness as time passes. A mid-boss arrives at 5:00 and the final boss at 9:00. You do not have to defeat the final boss, since surviving to 10:00 is enough. Large glowing enemies (Elites) drop a supply capsule that gives you one more card.
Every run pays out chips: 1 per 30 kills, 1 per 10 seconds survived, 5 per Elite, 30 for the mid-boss, 100 for the final boss and 100 for a clear. The Lab turns chips into 11 kinds of permanent upgrades. Maxing them all costs 7,270 chips, and you can reset at any time to get every chip back.
| Character | HP, speed | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Lumi | 100, 150 | From the start |
| Zin | 80, 158 | Survive to 5:00 with anyone |
| Momo | 130, 138 | Defeat 2,500 enemies in total |
Your score is kills + seconds survived × 5 + level × 20 + Elites × 100, plus 1,000 for the mid-boss, 3,000 for the final boss and 5,000 for a clear.
🧐 FAQ
Q. Which button attacks? None. Every weapon fires by itself. Your decisions are where to move and which card to take.
Q. Can I pause? Yes, with Esc, P or the II button at the top right. The game also pauses when you switch tabs or when half the stage leaves the screen, and it waits for you to resume. The pause screen lists your loadout and the damage each weapon has dealt.
Q. What happens if I close the page mid-run? You cannot continue that run. The chips you had collected are paid out the next time you open the game.
Q. Can I pick cards with the keyboard? Press 1, 2 or 3. R redraws the cards if you have bought redraws in the Lab. Cards ignore input for a moment after they appear, so a key you were already pressing does not pick one by accident.
Q. Can I move my progress to another browser? In the Settings tab, create a save code and keep the text. In the other browser, paste it and press Load code.
📚 Fun Facts
A genre named after the opposite of something else
In a bullet hell game, the screen fills with enemy shots that you squeeze between. This kind of game flips that around: most of the shots on screen are your own. Players started calling it "bullet heaven" for that reason, and "reverse bullet hell" and "survivors-like" went around too.
Vampire Survivors, first released on itch.io in March 2021, is the game that made the style widely known. It drew on an earlier mobile game called Magic Survival.
The name took years to settle. In May 2026 Valve added Bullet Heaven as a tag on Steam, describing it as the opposite of bullet hell, with a focus on upgrades while automatically attacking hordes of enemies. Some critics still prefer "survivor games" or "auto-shooters".
